When getting SAT scores used to mean waiting for a letter from the College Board, that is no longer the case. SAT scores are now released, instead, onto the College Board site. Important as they’re, though, there is debate about whether SAT scores are really the indicator of success that colleges consider them.
SAT Scores online
The College Board has SAT Scores online for any test taken before May 1. The scores are available at SAT.Collegeboard.com. SAT scores are released to colleges at the same time they are released online.
SAT scores going up?
You can re-take the SAT test if you aren’t happy with your scores. The College Board, however, and many test-prep companies are admitting that re-taking the test does not necessarily increase scores. Some test-prep companies cost $ 2,000 – a cost numerous students or their parents end up looking into personnel loans companies to pay. Within the past, the Princeton Review test-prep course claimed SAT scores would increase 255 points or more. Under investigation by the Better Business Bureau and others, Princeton Review has stopped making that claim. The steadily declining results from these test-prep programs are encouraging students to turn to less expensive programs.
SAT Scores not always required for admission
Even though it may feel like SAT or ACT scores from the College Board are required, it is not always the case. Within the U.S.A., you will find over 840 schools who do not require SAT scores to get into their accredited colleges. SAT scores don’t always indicate a student’s future success, and some schools have decided to put their admissions process where their beliefs are. There are arguments on both sides of the standardized test question, some schools have decided it’s not worth it. Determining admission at these “optional testing” schools is done using grade point average, extra-curricular activities, and other criteria.
